Why do you use sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide in your soap products

Sodium hydroxide (Lye) is used to make soap bars while potassium hydroxide (KOH) is used to make liquid soap. These two items are used in small amounts at low concentrations to make the oils turn into soap. It evaporates from the final product as the soap goes through the curing process. This leaves it no longer containing lye for soap bars or KOH for liquid soap making the final product safe to use.
